Democrats Support Voter ID: 71% Back Nationwide Requirement Over Fraud Concerns

A Pew Research Center poll from August 2025 found that 83% of American adults support requiring a government-issued photo ID to vote. This includes 71% of Democrats and 95% of Republicans, showing a rare moment of agreement across party lines.

The survey highlights a public weary of the chaos sown by lax voting rules, particularly after the 2024 election cycle revealed instances where noncitizens, deceased individuals, and duplicate voters slipped through the cracks. While Democrats have historically resisted such measures, labeling them as voter suppression, this data suggests even their base recognizes the need to protect the ballot box from exploitation.

Republican-vs-Democratic

Take Michigan, where a post-2024 review by the Department of State identified 15 credible cases of noncitizens casting ballots out of over 5.7 million votes, a tiny fraction but enough to raise alarms.

Thirteen of those cases were referred to the Attorney General for prosecution, proving that foreign interference in American elections, though rare, does occur and demands action.

In Texas, Attorney General Ken Paxton launched investigations into 33 potential noncitizens who allegedly voted in the 2024 General Election, emphasizing that no illegal vote should taint the process.

Fraud involving the identities of the deceased persists as well. The Heritage Foundation's Election Fraud Database documents multiple convictions, such as in Georgia, where individuals faced charges for casting ballots in the names of dead relatives. These cases, spanning years, show how outdated voter rolls allow opportunists to manipulate outcomes, often in Democrat-led areas.

Double voting is yet another crack in the system.

In New Hampshire, Richard Rosen was charged with felony voting in more than one state after casting ballots in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts during the 2016 election. Similar incidents surfaced in the 2024 cycle, with reports from states like Ohio, where six green card holders were indicted for illegal voting in past elections.

Critics on the left, including figures like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, have dismissed proposals like the SAVE Act as "Jim Crow 2.0," ignoring the bipartisan support for basic verification. Yet, as the Pew poll demonstrates, their resistance clashes with the will of the people, including their own voters.

No wonder people suspect some Democrats want to keep things broken. Open borders and weak enforcement only invite more chaos.

In a perfect world, we could trust the system. But after the Biden administration let millions cross the border unchecked, Americans are right to demand proof of citizenship. Voter ID nationwide would make sure only living, legal citizens pick our leaders. It would restore faith in democracy and stop the left from using old tricks to rig future elections.

As President Trump has advocated, measures like the SAVE Act, which requires documentary proof of citizenship for federal elections, align with this overwhelming consensus. With 83% of the country on board, it's time for Congress to act and secure the real and meaningful votes of Americans for generations to come.
